Motherhood and Destressing

When I gave birth last year in 2016, I knew I wanted to be the best mom. Now, what that entailed I wasn’t sure. However, I knew it was my ultimate goal. Did being a good mom mean: Feeding my daughter organic foods? Making sure I read to her every night? Being playful at all times? Or better yet, giving up listening to the radio in the car to sing nursery rhymes? After the first year I realized, my perception of being the “best mom” mainly focused on my daughter rather than myself. In order for me to be the “best mom” I had to find the time to relax and destress to provide her with the best me. For me this meant finding a creative outlet, anyone who knows me knows that I love to color! I may not be the best, however it has always been my form of therapy when stressed. (I own several adult coloring books!) When the idea of Platinum Art came up amongst my family and I, we thought this would be a great way for individuals to have fun, be creative and destress. Although, I believed in this business idea I wondered how I would juggle motherhood and start a new business. I never told them, but I was terrified yet eager at the same time to not only start this journey, but to inspire my daughter to understand that with faith, hard work and determination anything is possible. A year and half later, after sleepless nights, countless meetings and DIY projects, I can’t believe we are at the point where we can share Platinum Art with everyone. Although this journey has been challenging it has been one of the most rewarding experiences. We hope you join us! Nana Nuamah Co-Owner, Platinum Art
